Champagne Supernova

Went to Box Office to celebrate Mel's birthday on Thursday night.

Box Office is the name of a pub in Tanjong Pagar.
It has a very nice setting inside, with 'Classics' being the main theme.
Posters of movies that are way back beyond our generation are displayed all over. There are also 2 LCD TVs showing some of the films back then.
Probably the reason why I could observe as much was because the whole place was empty except for us being the only crowd.
Apparently, the pub is managed by Mel's family.
So basically it was her special day and everything else was on the house.

Brandon, one of the bartenders working there, Ivan, Sean (who is also a bartender there), Mel, Guoliang, Joey, Me and Xuguang.

Mel was carefully pouring the champagne into the glasses while being watched by 2 guys at the sides.
Being a big man as Sean is,
it is only natural for him to be consuming more.
That's why he looking at Mel and ensuring that she poured into his glass which is specially reserved for him and placed on the extreme right.

It took Mel like 1/2 hr to be pouring into 7th glass and thus making others becoming impatient. Even the 2 persons inside the TV have been greatly distracted and focusing all their attentions onto Mel.

Xuguang had lost his voice and couldn't really talk.
He had a very bad sore throat and the reason causing it is still unknown.
He had seen a doctor and was told that he may not be able to talk anymore for the rest of his life. Obviously it sounded like a lame joke to me when I heard the news. But I was further convinced that it could be real afterall.

Things are turning around for Xuguang.
He used to have a very good complexion last time.

Check out his latest pimple plantation being harvested after a brand new season.

He used to be a very talkative person too.
But now he is completely silent and only communicate by means of SMS or sign language.

There are 2 possible reasons as to how he became a mute.
Either he sold his voice to a Witch Doctor so that he could find a girl of his dreams on land to kiss with, before returning back into the ocean empty handed...
Or he could have done a number of Deep Throats for Blacks at Gun-point.

Xuguang tried to offer me a cigarette but I refused.
Brandon was saying that if I took a single puff, he would gulp down a bottle of alcohol straight away.

'What kind of friends are u all?'
I raised my voice.

There was this saying some time back which someone had told me.
Only a friend would offer a cigarette.
If you don't know the guy would you even talk to him?
It is only when I know you as a friend that's why I bother to ask u if you want a cigarette.
If not, I wouldn't even care about your existence.

Having this 'Quite True' logic in mind,
I reluctantly accepted the challenge.
But instead of inhaling gently, I gave an even bigger puff.
Those kind of puffs which the Big Bad Wolf uses so as to blow houses down.
I blew my lungs out and the cigarette almost exploded. There was a striking light coming out from the tip of the cigarette and I stopped in time before it went off like a dynamite.

During the later part of the night, we played a very silly yet funny expression.
We took turns each, with our faces squeezed at the cheeks and having lips looking like a Goldfish.
Then we had to say stupid things like;

'My name is Chubby.'
'My dad is Chubby.'
'Even my DoggggGGGG is Chubby.'

It was a fucking funny sight to see someone doing that.
We laughed our hearts out.

After all the drinks and merry, we ended the night at Boon Tong Kee.
Had some fine meals and we headed home after that.

The following day was my company's annual DnD.
But fortunately my stomach turned out to be rather unpleasant coincidentally which made me reported sick next. If not for the combination of cakes, pizzas and different types of drinks I had at Box Office, I would have gone to an event on Friday which I am very sure I wouldn't be glad to be at.

Cheers Mate.

Final Destination

FFI.
For Further Instructions.
Fit For Instructions.
To ORD, that is.
Or in my case...
ROD.

Went for my Dental FFI 2 weeks ago on a Wednesday and also my Medical FFI on the following Wednesday. Both appointments were booked on the same day but unfortunately on different dates. Dental was done in Safti MI whereas Medical in MMI. It would be so much better if these could be done together at the same place and on the same day.
It takes only a minute or so, or even lesser time for the Dental Officer to finish checking my teeth and saying goodbye to me,
after waiting for more than a hour for him to get his ass moving.
I don't mind waiting for so long if I were to be collecting a grand prize or a box of diamonds.
But to be going through a process which requires only a minute is simply not worth the time wasted.

Same goes for the Medical one.

The moment I registered myself at the counter, I knew what was in stored for me.
I sat down and waited patiently for my turn to come.
While I was there looking around and observing those Chao Keng people who had come to report sick, I noticed a familiar face walking in. He registered at the counter and started walking towards the waiting area. We had eye contacts and naturally smiled at each other. Not in a gayish manner but more of a friendly kind of way.
He was a RP from my workplace.
I did a duty with him some time back and he remembered me as well.
He was there for his Medical FFI too.
It seemed like we had something in common and we managed to have some decent, but boring conversations.

After some time, my name was called and I was told to go to another location.
Did my urine test, blood pressure etc and then going back to my seat.
To wait.
I basically changed places so that I had a new environment to wait.
Luckily, John and Kumar were there too. Not so lonely anymore when I had people together with me waiting. At least I knew I wasn't the only one being the jackass.

We finished our checkups with the Medical Officer and decided to go grab a bite at the nearby canteen, which is part of the NUS campus.
Coincidentally, we saw the RPs whom I have met earlier on and sat together.
Finished our food and it was time for us to go back to our workplace.
It didn't occur to me the slightest bit that I would be able to escape from the scorching sunlight that afternoon.

God blessed me hard.

Blessed me so much that the RP offered us a ride in his car.
The thoughts of walking all the way out and taking a bus totally rape my mind senseless especially on a hot sunny day.
Fortunately I had made small talks with the RP earlier on which probably made him feel bad if he didn't offer us a ride.
When he asked if we needed a lift back to CMPB, my mind was like...

'Are you fucking kidding me?!'

But I was pretending to be hesitant, making him think that I don't feel good if I rejected.
He gave us a ride back and then going home afterwards.
If only I knew his name.
I would definitely spread his good deeds all over and telling everyone to keep a lookout for people like him in stranded situations.

You never know who will be of any help.
Even the most distant stranger can be someone who comes to your aid.

Or probably someone who can give you Aids.

Connecting People

Went to watch Tom Yum Goong on Saturday night with Annabelle at Jurong Point.

We didn't exactly have any plans to do on that day, so the last alternative to spend the night more interestingly would be to catch a midnight show.
Good movies are hard to come by nowadays and most of them are definitely not $9.50's worth.
I have heard from others saying that the thai fighting show is not too bad and it's pretty much entertaining with all the kungfu stunts even though it has a weird storyline with 2 elephants involved.
I decided to watch it not only because of the rather positive responses from my friends,
but also mainly for the reason that a majority of the other movies remaining are still halfway downloading in progress.

I met up with Annabelle after she finished work at around 9.30pm.
We then took a west bound train all the way to Boon Lay and alighted.
I told her that we would be watching a midnight show and she was fine with the decision that I have made. We walked to the ticketing counter in Golden Village and it was the very first time in my life that I have treated the place like a food stall.

'Can I have 2 tom yum please?'
I asked,
with a relatively serious look on my face.

Any new staff who was working on the first day and unawared of the movies that were screening would have pointed to the opposite direction and said.

'Tom Yum at the opposite Food Court.'
'Down here the most also have hotdog and popcorn only.'
'Now so late also closed liao, try again tomorrow morning.'

'Tom Yum Goong for 2, at 12.20am.'
'Is that ok, sir?'
The lady replied with a friendly smile.

The seatings were great and I got the tickets without a doubt.
We slacked all the way at MacDonald's until it was time to go to the toilet one last time before entering the cinema.

Tom Yum Goong kicks ass.
Tonnes of fighting sequences with moves that are somewhat more unique and realistic than the common action flicks.
An estimation of 200 people were involved in the fights and 14,568 bones were broken accordingly.
The whole show is about action, action and even more action.
Even though the story is lame and yet still trying to be complex in a way,
the stunts totally covers up it's entire flaws.

The hero is fucking well trained and his moves make Jacky Chan look like a wuss doing aerobics.
Despite the fact that the lead actor is illiterate and only knows how to say 'Where are my elephants?' in thai, I am sure there are still many big companies willing to sign him up in foreign action movies.

The story is about 2 of his elephants being stolen by gangsters and then going through all barriers in order to save them. One of the elephants was killed and he became extremely furious, unleashing all his might onto his opponents.
I was wondering what would happen if it was his father being killed instead.
He could have gone insanely berserk, pouring out everything from inside and changing into something completely inhuman.
Probably turning into a bowl of hot and spicy cum sour Tom Yum soup.

One of the elephants, which is the baby one,
is named Korn.

Now there's 2 Korns I know.
Same name but of different worlds apart.

I personally liked the movie.
Very well done.
I give it a 9.5 for the action and 3.5 for the story.

Thai is a very complicated language.
Not only is it hard to understand but it's comparatively irritating to hear as well.
I think it's one of the most annoying language along with the Mandarin slang of those from China.
They probably think that we Singaporeans are as disturbing too,
with our Singlish and all so it actually works both ways.

Shawn of MCC Anthro once told me about an incident involving a China guy.
There was a day when this guy went into Room 6.
He was there for his medical checkup but clearly he has not done the other stations before entering there. Room 6 is the last station for a full medical checkup and a person has finish the earlier tests in order to proceed.
Shawn saw this guy who was holding on to a file and wanted to know which stations he had done already. So he asked the pre-enlistee out of curiosity to check if he proceeded to the right station.

'Qing wen ni cong na li lai ah?'
'Ni cong ting li che yan (Hearing test) na li lai'
'Hai shi yan jing che yan (Eyesight test) lai de?'

Shawn gave a few examples so that he could understand easily.
The guy replied.

'Wo cong Da Lu (Mainland China) lai de.'

Love La Senza

Went shopping with Annabelle last Thursday and Friday.

Stayed over at her house on Wednesday night and only got out of there the following evening.
It was kind of late for shopping but we had already planned where to go and what to buy,
so we could actually still make it without spending unnecessary time on aimless pursuits.

We headed down to Raffles City.
The shopping mall that is situated right outside City Hall Mrt station with an escalator leading to it.
Levi's is the only outlet that I will go in that building. The boutique there is much larger than any others one can think of. In fact, I think it is the biggest in the whole of Singapore.

It used to be.

The moment we stepped into the place, we could sense that something was wrong.
The new and present Levi's store had became smaller than before.
I once bought a pair of 501 reborn in that same boutique. The staff told me that after washing for the first few times, the jeans would naturally become narrower in size.
I did wear my jeans and wash them for a couple of times.
The pair of Levi's did shrink as to how the staff had warned me earlier on.
But he didn't mention anything about his own boutique having the same result.

Now the pair of jeans is buried somewhere beneath my pile of unused junk.
Waiting for its owner to once wear it again when he loses some weight and slim down abit.

We browsed through some jeans and Annabelle took a pair to try.
I told her that the color was nice and unique.
She tried on a few sizes before deciding to get it or not.
After Annabelle was done, she was satisfied with the fitting and wanted to have it.
I purchased the pair of jeans at the counter and that was the gift I had owed her since Oct 16, her 21st birthday.

We then walked to Suntec City.
Annabelle wanted to buy some of her own stuffs.
She brought me to a place that I wouldn't normally go into.

Love La Senza.
Very sensual and romantic.
Sounds like some R21 erotic movie but that's the name of the outlet we were at.

The whole place was filled with bras and panties.
Ladie's undergarments and lingerie.
The entire shop was glaring to me. It was as though emitting some kind of beam into my eyes, almost blinding them. I wasn't sure if it was due to the lighting itself or because of the colorful contents that were displayed right in front of me.
I was the only guy inside at that moment and it was also one of the few times in my life when there were so many females looking at me and checking me out altogether.
Subconsciously, I began to stand at a pose that I felt most manly. I held my breath, contracted a portion of my tummy inwards and folded my arms in a confident manner. My face was dead serious and I was retaliating all sorts of signals given out by the ladies in eye contact.

After a while, I was feeling restless and I couldn't take it anymore.
The pressure was too intense and I stepped out of the shop for a moment to relax my mind. Although the air inside the outlet was much fresher and with a strong scent of seduction, I had to take to take a break or else I might collapse instantly into the bed of heavenly cushions.

I walked back inside awhile and Annabelle was done with her selection.
She chose her personal favorites and purchased them at the counter, with me standing beside and greatly distracted once again by the surroundings. She made her payment and I took a last glance and breath before leaving the shop reluctantly.

To finish up for that day,
she bought a top at Topshop and we had dinner at Carl's JR.
I went back to her house for another night and we left for town the next day,
which was in the evening as well.
She bought 3 pairs of shorts and we had a sumptuous dinner at Cafe Cartel.

The reason it's sumptuous and better than before?
Her treat.
Hopefully, I get to eat more meals that I find likewise in the future.

Lots of love,
Mr Bankrupt.

Great Wanderers

Went out with Li Soon on Wednesday night.

It was kind of a last minute outing as I had already reserved plans for Annabelle.
She was going Zouk with her group of close friends and we were discussing on whether I should join them too, or meet up with her afterwards so that we could go back together to her house that night.
Zouk wasn't exactly where I wished to go since I was there on Monday night and it didn't leave a good impression on me. Furthermore, She was heading there with a 'Girls only' outing in mind. Even if I wanted to tag along, she wouldn't really mind but I guessed it should be better if I was left out on this one.
But the problem was,
how the hell was I supposed to meet her after that?
There was no fucking way that I was going to take a cab all the way from my house to pick her up then going back to her place. Travelling from one end to the other in a taxi with midnight charge is even enough for the driver to hesitate for a moment.

'I think I have earned enough for the night.'
'Time for me to knock off and start work again tomorrow.'

I didn't have any other plans for the night,
and I had to come up with one fast.
The better solution would be to hangout at somewhere in the west until Annabelle was done clubbing. She could then take a cab, pick me up along the way and go back home together as an alternative.

I saw Li Soon on MSN and asked if he wanted to come out for a drink.
He was fine with it and I asked him if there is any place in the west where it's fun to chill out and have some drinks.
He wasn't really sure but according to him, Holland V wouldn't be that bad an idea.
We were suggesting to meet up in town first.
But somehow along the way while I was in the train, he changed his mind and told me to meet him at Commonwealth MRT station instead. He estimated the time to leave his house and assured me that he won't be late.

As soon as I reached Commonwealth, I called Li Soon on his handphone while wondering where exactly I should meet him. At that split second, I thought that he had been waiting there for some time and I was making haste out of the station.

'Eh, I reach liao.'
'Where are you?'
'Where you want me to meet you?'

I was expecting him to tell me whether I should turn the left or right exit but he gave me an even better response.

'Wa, so fast ah.'
'I now still at Clementi leh..'
'On the way liao.'

I slowed down my pace immediately and walked to the taxi stand beside the bus stop to wait for Li Soon's arrival.
About 15 minutes later, a car came and stopped in front of me.
It was dark and my vision was failing me. I couldn't really tell whether it was Li Soon on the driver's seat or not.
It was like a brand new car to me.
I remembered sitting in Li Soon's car a few months back. The impression it gave me was a rundown piece of crap and nowhere close to the car that was right ahead of me. I wasn't prepared for this, and it didn't feel right, so I glanced from a distance without approaching it at first.
I would have felt so less tensed,
and without a doubt,
presumed that it was Li Soon if the vehicle were to be a Pickup or a Lorry.

I focused for awhile and it was Li Soon alright.
I got into his car and asked him what happened to his previous one. According to him, the old one was being sold and that his dad had bought this current one for him to use.
Not for himself to use but for Li Soon to use.
Rich man's son sia.
I told him that he had became even more handsome than he already was before.
Because of his new car, Li Soon had exceeded the role of being the most handsome guy in MCC to someone of much greater heights.

Li Soon had unknowingly became the most good looking guy in South East Asia.

We arrived at Holland V and got down.
I wasn't familiar of the place so I suggested having a stroll around the place before deciding where to settle down. We walked from Coffee Bean all the way to the other end, which is not a long distance to begin with. Along the stretch, there was quite a number of pubs which were surprisingly closed on a holiday eve like this. The only place which caught my attention was Eski bar, which is situated right at the corner of the whole stretch.
It was just nice that I had to take a leak.
So I went into Eski bar and checked the place out before a decision was being made. The whole place was rather empty and only a small group of people could be seen. I went in, used the toilet and walked out of the pub thinking of another place to go.

We ended up at Coffee Bean.
Of all the places that we could go. But at least we did save up more than we intended to.
Got a drink each, sat down and chatted all the lame stuffs.
After some time, the place was closing so we walked back to his car.
It was around 1.30am in the morning and it was hard to think of where to go next.

After much hesitation, we left for Beauty World.
Somewhere in Bukit Timah.
We played an hour of Pool over there and then heading to MacDonald's after that.
King Albert's Park Macdonalds is 24 hrs but we left shortly after realising that there isn't a 24 hr toilet as well.
Despite the fact that only the drive-thru counter was available, and that there isn't any toilet for the public to go to, there were still many people around.
Those must be the hardcore starving kind of individuals who either have a very good control of their bladders,
or have bladders that are already burst.

We left for Clementi's MacDonald's.
Slacked all the way till it was time for Annabelle to come and pick me up.
Li Soon is such a nice guy.
He waited with me all the while until the cab came.

I got onto the cab and he took off like a racer,
hoping to impress the taxi driver,
who was the least bothered with him.

A Tribute to Someone

Wan Lin.

My station IC, my friend, and my fellow colleague.
She's the best IC anyone can have.
In fact...
Throughout the whole of MCC,
she really is.

Always there to lend a helping hand.
Hardworking, organised, with a heart of gold and free from politics.
Sharing the work load equally and not having the slightest selfish intentions of pushing responsibilites around.
Even though sometimes she would be on MC or urgent Leave all of a sudden,
her attitude towards her work totally covers up the negative side.
I had a very good time working together with her all these months.
Unfortunately, she had found a better job outside and decided to end it here in MCC.
I feel happy for her.
She deserves much better treatment than what she used to have over here.
Yesterday, 31st of October, was her last day of work officially.

A gorgeous setting taken together with Linda,
who is going to replace her temporarily for the time being.

Good luck and take care.
I will definitely miss the times when we were working together.

Scary Night Indeed

Went to Zouk last night to celebrate Halloween.

I met Brandon at around 6.45pm in the evening after reaching home from work.
We were sitting at the mini coffeeshop downstairs my block and deciding where to go later in the night. Xuguang did mention a few days back that he would be going down Zouk so we thought for a while before coming to a conclusion.
Called Ivan and he said that he had finished work and would give us a call again if he wanted to join us, wherever we might be landing up at.
I told Brandon that it was time for us to make a move.
I had to get out of the damn place before my leg starts to peel off.
Mosquitoes were having a feast on my body and I was scratching away as though I had never bathed ever since I was born.

It was around 10 pm when I took a bath.
As I was showering halfway, my handphone rang and I stopped immediately while trying to wash away the foam on my hands.

My handphone is basically near me all the time where I can just reach out for it.
Even if I were to be in the toilet or having a bath,
I will ensure that most of the calls are being answered.
Except when I am sleeping at night then there is no way I will listen a call,
unless it still rings when the phone is totally off.

I have 2 handphones and 2 lines.
M1 and Starhub.
Sometimes I would bring the 2 handphones and a cordless phone inside the toilet to take a shit.
My mom saw this once and asked me out of curiosity.

'Le zo simi tua seng li?'

She was asking what kind of million dollar business deal I was about to clinch that I needed to bring so many phones to put on standby.

The call happened to be Xuguang.

'Eh, I think you all can forget about coming to Zouk liao.'
'The queue is fucking long and it's like all the way to Johor Bahru.'

He didn't exactly mention anything about Malaysia but he did bring up something about queuing all the way to a bridge. So that could be what he meant afterall.

'Sure or not.'
I replied.

Actually I wasn't surprised at all since Zouk has always been like this whenever there is an event being held.
Xuguang then said that he might consider going elsewhere instead.
We ended our short conversation and I continued showering away the remaining foam on my body,
which was still left unwashed all the while when I was using the phone.

After about 5 mins, Brandon called.

'Eh, Xuguang got call you or not just now?'

'Ya..'
I said.
'Then how ah?'

'We go down town then say lah.'
'Anyway we like this wait at home also no use.'
'Cannot go inside Zouk also sure got other place to go one.'

Brandon was very determined to meet up first.
The time was getting late and we had to meet up fast in order to catch up with the pace.
I remembered telling him I was in the midst of bathing and that I could go out of my house as soon as I came out of the bathroom and dress up.
He said that he had taken a bath already and was able to get out of his house soon enough.
We were reminding each other not to be late but we weren't sure what the outcome would be.
So we decided to give a fixed time to meet up, any later than that and the person would have to be thrown behind bars and given 12 strokes of the cane.

But what Brandon asked me after that made me speechless for a while and still holding on to the running shower head with my other hand.

'You in front of your computer or not?'
'Check the time first leh.'

I repeated myself,
saying that I am inside the bathroom,
and taking a bath.

There aint a 51 inch plasma TV with dholby digital surround speakers in my bathroom.
Neither is there a decent working computer in there.
Even if I wanted to put one in there and that I had the money to do so,
it won't be logically possible at all.
Somebody in my family might be singing happily while showering at the same time,
and being electrocuted into tasty bacon bits next.

I came out of my bathroom, got dressed up and met Brandon downstairs. He stays only a few blocks away and not because he had already left his house for a long time already.
We walked to the bus stop just in front of Holy Trinity church and sat down to wait for the Express 518 bus to arrive.
We were waiting for like 15 mins and got impatient.
I then asked Brandon if there is still 518 or not.

'Sure have one leh!'
He replied confidently.
'I mean the time leh.'
'Maybe last bus no more liao?'
I continued.

We looked at each other in the eyes and got up.
We then checked the timings marked on the board and also the present time.
It seemed that the last bus had took off and we have been waiting there like complete idiots.
The last bus was scheduled at around 10.25pm while the time we reached was about 10.40pm.
Luckily we found out earlier.
Otherwise we would be seen all dressed up, getting ready to party and ending up celebrating Halloween at the bus stop.
And if it was too late for any other public transports except for taking a midnight cab,
we probably would be heading home next.

We drew some money from the nearest ATM machine and rushed our way down to Zouk in a non-midnight cab.
There was only one word which I could describe the queue as.

Insane.

Fucking long queue for all 3 entrances.
Regardless of whether was it Phuture, Zouk or Velvet Underground.
Xuguang was still queuing since 10pm and we reached there slightly after 11.
We walked into his queue naturally and at the same time checking out on those costumes everyone was wearing.
All sorts of costumes were seen there.
Practically anything that one could think of.
If I were to wear a costume,
I would definitely be a suicide bomber,
with bombs planted all over my body.
This way, I might be able to make the crowd give way to me easier...
But also causing the bouncer not to let me in eventually when I am all the way at the entrance.

Our first attempt was to go in from Phuture.
Waited and waited. Jumped a queue whenever there was a chance.
We came to somewhere near the entrance and they announced Full House to everyone.
2nd attempt at Zouk.
The same fucking thing happened.
Full House.

We had already waited for so long and there was no way we were going to give up,
even if our lives were at stake.
We squeezed our way through the Velvet entrance and managed to breathe abit of the air-con inside.

It was a sign of hope.
A sense of relief.

Although I could swear that I felt like I had stepped onto somebody on the ground.
Everyone was squeezing until like there was no tomorrow.
Some poor chap might be lying motionless on the floor with all the uncivilised barbarians stepping all over him/her.

We went in and paid our cover charges.
Time check.
It was already 12.50am.

Xuguang was there queuing up since 10 pm.

If anyone of you wants to club at Zouk on a public holiday eve,
and especially with an event being held,
well...
Think again.
