Scary Night Indeed

Went to Zouk last night to celebrate Halloween.

I met Brandon at around 6.45pm in the evening after reaching home from work.
We were sitting at the mini coffeeshop downstairs my block and deciding where to go later in the night. Xuguang did mention a few days back that he would be going down Zouk so we thought for a while before coming to a conclusion.
Called Ivan and he said that he had finished work and would give us a call again if he wanted to join us, wherever we might be landing up at.
I told Brandon that it was time for us to make a move.
I had to get out of the damn place before my leg starts to peel off.
Mosquitoes were having a feast on my body and I was scratching away as though I had never bathed ever since I was born.

It was around 10 pm when I took a bath.
As I was showering halfway, my handphone rang and I stopped immediately while trying to wash away the foam on my hands.

My handphone is basically near me all the time where I can just reach out for it.
Even if I were to be in the toilet or having a bath,
I will ensure that most of the calls are being answered.
Except when I am sleeping at night then there is no way I will listen a call,
unless it still rings when the phone is totally off.

I have 2 handphones and 2 lines.
M1 and Starhub.
Sometimes I would bring the 2 handphones and a cordless phone inside the toilet to take a shit.
My mom saw this once and asked me out of curiosity.

'Le zo simi tua seng li?'

She was asking what kind of million dollar business deal I was about to clinch that I needed to bring so many phones to put on standby.

The call happened to be Xuguang.

'Eh, I think you all can forget about coming to Zouk liao.'
'The queue is fucking long and it's like all the way to Johor Bahru.'

He didn't exactly mention anything about Malaysia but he did bring up something about queuing all the way to a bridge. So that could be what he meant afterall.

'Sure or not.'
I replied.

Actually I wasn't surprised at all since Zouk has always been like this whenever there is an event being held.
Xuguang then said that he might consider going elsewhere instead.
We ended our short conversation and I continued showering away the remaining foam on my body,
which was still left unwashed all the while when I was using the phone.

After about 5 mins, Brandon called.

'Eh, Xuguang got call you or not just now?'

'Ya..'
I said.
'Then how ah?'

'We go down town then say lah.'
'Anyway we like this wait at home also no use.'
'Cannot go inside Zouk also sure got other place to go one.'

Brandon was very determined to meet up first.
The time was getting late and we had to meet up fast in order to catch up with the pace.
I remembered telling him I was in the midst of bathing and that I could go out of my house as soon as I came out of the bathroom and dress up.
He said that he had taken a bath already and was able to get out of his house soon enough.
We were reminding each other not to be late but we weren't sure what the outcome would be.
So we decided to give a fixed time to meet up, any later than that and the person would have to be thrown behind bars and given 12 strokes of the cane.

But what Brandon asked me after that made me speechless for a while and still holding on to the running shower head with my other hand.

'You in front of your computer or not?'
'Check the time first leh.'

I repeated myself,
saying that I am inside the bathroom,
and taking a bath.

There aint a 51 inch plasma TV with dholby digital surround speakers in my bathroom.
Neither is there a decent working computer in there.
Even if I wanted to put one in there and that I had the money to do so,
it won't be logically possible at all.
Somebody in my family might be singing happily while showering at the same time,
and being electrocuted into tasty bacon bits next.

I came out of my bathroom, got dressed up and met Brandon downstairs. He stays only a few blocks away and not because he had already left his house for a long time already.
We walked to the bus stop just in front of Holy Trinity church and sat down to wait for the Express 518 bus to arrive.
We were waiting for like 15 mins and got impatient.
I then asked Brandon if there is still 518 or not.

'Sure have one leh!'
He replied confidently.
'I mean the time leh.'
'Maybe last bus no more liao?'
I continued.

We looked at each other in the eyes and got up.
We then checked the timings marked on the board and also the present time.
It seemed that the last bus had took off and we have been waiting there like complete idiots.
The last bus was scheduled at around 10.25pm while the time we reached was about 10.40pm.
Luckily we found out earlier.
Otherwise we would be seen all dressed up, getting ready to party and ending up celebrating Halloween at the bus stop.
And if it was too late for any other public transports except for taking a midnight cab,
we probably would be heading home next.

We drew some money from the nearest ATM machine and rushed our way down to Zouk in a non-midnight cab.
There was only one word which I could describe the queue as.

Insane.

Fucking long queue for all 3 entrances.
Regardless of whether was it Phuture, Zouk or Velvet Underground.
Xuguang was still queuing since 10pm and we reached there slightly after 11.
We walked into his queue naturally and at the same time checking out on those costumes everyone was wearing.
All sorts of costumes were seen there.
Practically anything that one could think of.
If I were to wear a costume,
I would definitely be a suicide bomber,
with bombs planted all over my body.
This way, I might be able to make the crowd give way to me easier...
But also causing the bouncer not to let me in eventually when I am all the way at the entrance.

Our first attempt was to go in from Phuture.
Waited and waited. Jumped a queue whenever there was a chance.
We came to somewhere near the entrance and they announced Full House to everyone.
2nd attempt at Zouk.
The same fucking thing happened.
Full House.

We had already waited for so long and there was no way we were going to give up,
even if our lives were at stake.
We squeezed our way through the Velvet entrance and managed to breathe abit of the air-con inside.

It was a sign of hope.
A sense of relief.

Although I could swear that I felt like I had stepped onto somebody on the ground.
Everyone was squeezing until like there was no tomorrow.
Some poor chap might be lying motionless on the floor with all the uncivilised barbarians stepping all over him/her.

We went in and paid our cover charges.
Time check.
It was already 12.50am.

Xuguang was there queuing up since 10 pm.

If anyone of you wants to club at Zouk on a public holiday eve,
and especially with an event being held,
well...
Think again.
