Oh so Tragic

Ivan wanted to rent a car so as to impress Nicole by picking her up at the airport when she arrives from Austrailia 2 nights ago.
He also planned on booking a night at a hotel to further enhance the element of surprise while spending the night together with each other.

I do not know for sure the relationship between the two of them currently.
What Ivan intended was far beyond the doings of a Casanova.
Even girls who do not know Ivan at all will eventually ask for his hand in marriage.

Ivan told me and Brandon to go get the car first in the afternoon since he was working till 5.30pm. He also told us to help him get some roses so that he could decorate the hotel bathroom with the petals.
So Romantic of him.

I met up with Brandon 2 days ago at around 1.30pm.
The place that we had to go was at Ubi so we took a bus No.8 down to somewhere near the location. We alighted at the bus-stop and started making phonecalls to confirm the address of the place. We realised that it was actually near to where we were standing and it was merely a walking distance away. By then, Brandon was already thinking of whether to take a cab there or not.

As soon as we stepped out of the bus-stop, it started to rain.
It was such a coincidence that it appeared that we might have triggered it off by going through the sensors at the edge of the shelter.
It was then that we had no choice but to take a cab.

We arrived at our destination, did the paperworks, handed over the cash and walked to the carpark. We were told that the better ones were taken so we didn't have high hopes as we proceeded. It was a decent looking car with a model which I didn't really remember. It doesn't look like a sports car to me in any way but it might motivate the driver somehow since it came along with a Initial D cd in the player.
Brandon and I were kind of excited as we got into the vehicle.
Our morale went down accordingly as we slowly turned the music volume up.
The speakers were giving out strange noises and it was safer to keep the volume at a lower limit. We didn't want the whole car to explode because of the sound system and ending up killing ourselves in a low budget piece of rundown metal.

There was enough time for us to go Queensway (finally) until Ivan finishes work.
But before we could go anywhere, there was one important assignment we needed to do.

Top up Cash Card.

Brandon drove to a nearby 7 eleven and told me to top up my 11B first.
My 11B, which is also my Green IC, can be used as a Cash Card too. I figured that I couldn't possibly sit in the car the whole day for free so topping up the card was probably one of the contributions that I could offer.
I came out of the car and entered the store, which was totally empty without any customers. I proceeded to the counter with one of my hands carrying the 11B and the money in the other. Both of my arms were stretched towards the cashier and giving him the idea that I was rushing for time.

'Top up Cash Card need to wait for 15 minutes.'
'Now changing shift.'

That was the reply I got when the staff saw me approaching him.
'Wa, so sway sia.'
'Like this also can kena.'
I thought to myself as I walked back to the car and told Brandon about the situation.
The two of us were very hungry at the same time so we decided to eat a meal while waiting.
We finished our food and I went back to top up the card.
$2.00 plus another 50 cents for service charge.
According to Brandon, $2.00 was all that's needed to have in the card.
He's the one driving so naturally I trusted his judgement.

On the way to Queensway, there was a point of time whereby Brandon was waiting for the path to clear before he could turn Left. He was checking the side mirror and saying,
'Esther behind sia.'
'The lady look like Esther (Brandon's Ex-girlfriend).'

I turned behind and caught a glimpse of the passenger Brandon was talking about.
True enough, she really does look abit like Esther.
The certain angle and lighting made us thought that there might be a chance that the person could really be her.
But as we moved to the next lane while still in observation,
'Esther' turned out to be an auntie.

Ok, nevermind.
Just an inaccurate assumption.
Everyone does the same mistake, not only Brandon.

We reached Queensway shopping centre not long after.
Walked around at the same time checking out the shops and all.
Brandon saw a shirt which he liked alot and wanted to try it on. He took down the piece of clothing and asked the staff if there was a smaller size available.
Unforunately, there wasn't and in fact, it was the last one hanging there.
The Black long sleeved shirt with grey linings was obviously too big for Brandon to fit in.

'Go and try lah.'
'The most you turn your cap (which he was currently wearing) to the side and act Hip Hop lah.'
I told him.

'Siao ah.'
We left the shop and proceeded to the others.

We browsed a few other shops and soon it happened again.

'Eh, that girl look like Esther sia.'
Brandon alerted my attention.

We walked nearer behind her and found out that there wasn't anything new.
'Esther' turned out to be an auntie as well.

Once was not enough for Brandon.
I wouldn't be surprised if we came upon 10 or 20 Esthers that day.

'Eh, you Ok or not?!'
'Every single auntie walk pass you say look like Esther.'
'Might as well you go to the market and take your pick.'
I was rather confused and wanted to wake him up from his weird fetish desires.

Time passed real fast and we had to leave the shopping mall.
Ivan was finishing work soon and we had to go pick him up early before he starts to fuck us upside down.
We got up the car in the carpark and traced the direction to the exit.

All was well except for one stupid mistake.

We were short of 20 fucking cents in the Cash Card to get out of the carpark.
Brandon said that having $2 in the Cash Card was enough but clearly it got us into deep shit. Not to mention the extra ERP charges when entering the CBD areas later in the evening.

Luckily, there was a station nearby where we could top up the amount.
I didn't want to take any further risks.
Even though we needed another extra 20 cents to get out, I topped up $3 just in case.
There goes my initial plan of saving much more while making full use of convenient transportations.

On the way to Ivan's workplace, Brandon's handphone rang.
My hands were free so I answered the call instead.
Like what we presumed...
It was Ivan, the man of the day.

'Eh, where are you all liao?'

'At highway liao.'
'Gonna reach soon.'
When in fact,
we just left a couple of traffic lights away from Queensway.

'Later I tell you all one very fucked up thing.'
He added.

I ended the call and told Brandon what Ivan had just said.

'Maybe Nicole's flight cancelled?'
Brandon replied and laughed soon after.
I was actually thinking of the same joke and joined in the laughter too.

We forgot about the roses earlier on but it was also too late to buy them already.
Ivan must be a very happy man on that day so small matters like this wouldn't affect much.
He has been waiting very very long for this moment to come and was anticipating Nicole's arrival with intense excitement.

It must be one of Ivan's most joyous occasion in his life.

We reached his workplace and Ivan got in.

'Eh, what thing so fucked up?'
'You haven't tell us what happened.'

We were thinking that it probably should have something to do with his day at work.
Maybe kena scolded by customers for no apparent reason.

A reply came along with a strong gust of cold wind.

'Nicole missed her flight.'
